How do I redeem an Amazon promo code?
When you’ve chosen your items from Amazon, go to the checkout and enter the promo code in the ‘Payment Method’ section where it says ‘Enter a gift card or promotional code’, then select ‘Apply’. The details of your order will then be updated to reflect any valid discounts or offers.
If you choose a promotion or sale that doesn’t require a promo code, the details will automatically be applied to your order. You can also view details of any savings before and after placing an order.
For promo codes in particular, it’s also worth noting that the code may only apply to products sold directly by Amazon or a specific partnered retailer on Amazon. To make it easier to check these details, any promo codes we include here will share key details and direct you to the relevant section of Amazon.
How we select these codes and deals
Our deals team collectively has over 15 years of experience researching, sourcing – and shopping – the best deals, sales and promo codes. So we regularly check the Amazon website, partner websites and other online sources for deals, as well as emails and direct and indirect communication with Amazon. Then, we consider the types of deals that are most valuable and relevant for you, check them to make sure that they work and read the terms and conditions to make sure you have all the key details. We also remove promo codes and other deals when they expire.
How often does Amazon have sales?
Amazon Australia has daily deals you can search and filter by category. For example, we found discounts ranging from around 6% to more than 60% when we checked the deals for kitchen and home items while writing this article. But you’ll typically find the biggest savings during major sales, including:
- Amazon Australia Big Smile Sale: Usually runs for several days in March or April.
- Mid-year sale: As well as Prime and other Amazon offers, you can find competitive End of Financial Year sales offers and products from popular retailers and brands that have Amazon Australia stores. So if the vacuum cleaner or coffee machine you want sells out elsewhere during the EOFY sales, it’s worth checking Amazon Australia.
- Prime Day: Exclusive to Amazon Prime members (including free trial members), this 1-2 day online event offers valuable deals across almost all categories and usually runs in July. While a date hasn’t been announced for 2025 yet, last year it was on 11-12 July.
- Prime Big Day Deals: This is another sale exclusive to Amazon Prime members and usually runs over several days in the second half of the year. To give you an idea of the potential value, we found the Ecovacs Deebot N8 robot vacuum for $700 less than its usual price during the Prime Big Day Deals in 2024.
- Black Friday: Held on the last Friday in November, Black Friday and Cyber Monday (which follows it) are now widely considered as the biggest sales event in Australia. Amazon has huge deals and savings across just about everything you can imagine.
- Boxing Day: Officially the 26 December each year, Boxing Day sales are of a similar scale to Black Friday, making them ideal for a post-Christmas purchase or two.
Other ways to save
Joining Amazon Prime is one of the main ways to save outside of promo codes, sales or other deals. This subscription-based program costs $9.99 per month and gives you benefits including free shipping on eligible domestic and international orders, exclusive Prime discounts, member sales, early access to other sales and Amazon Prime streaming. It also offers a 30-day free trial for new members.
Delivery, returns and payment
Does Amazon offer free shipping?
Amazon Prime members get free shipping on a wide range of items, both from Australian and international sellers. This includes free expedited delivery for eligible orders, which means you could receive some items within a day or two of ordering them.
If you’re not a Prime member, you may sometimes be able to get free delivery through a promotion or particular order. You’ll find shipping details on the product page and can enter your postcode to get an estimate of the cost and delivery time.
How long does delivery take?
Delivery times vary depending on the order, seller and your location. You may also be able to choose standard or expedited/express delivery for some orders. You can get an estimate before placing your order and can also track orders for more accurate delivery times.
What is Amazon’s return policy?
If you change your mind about something purchased from Amazon directly, you have 30 days from delivery to return it for a refund. In most cases, you will be responsible for any shipping costs. For other retailers on Amazon, check the returns details for a particular product or Amazon Store. You can also view the Third Party Seller Returns & Refunds policy for full details.
It’s also worth keeping in mind that if your items are damaged, faulty, not as described or have other issues, you may be entitled to a refund, replacement or other compensation under Australian Consumer Law.
Ways to pay
Amazon accepts all major credit cards, Visa and Mastercard debit cards, Union Pay, Zip, gift cards and payments directly from your bank via PayTo. You’ll typically need to save a payment method for your account but can update or change it easily before making a purchase.
Our favourite thing about shopping with Amazon online
Amazon has a huge range of products in Australia and its global warehouses, as well as third-party sellers and retailers including Breville, Dyson and Maxwell & Williams. This makes it easy to check availability and pricing options for different products on the site. With so much available, the categories, filters and huge database of customer reviews on Amazon help save time finding and choosing the right items for your home.
