How do I redeem an eBay discount code?

When you select a deal here, you’ll get details of whether a discount code is needed and be directed to the relevant section of the eBay website. From there you can select the items you want and simply enter the code in the redemption field during the checkout process.

But it’s worth noting that some eBay deals don’t require a discount code and are automatically applied at the checkout.

How we select these codes and deals

Our deals team collectively draw on more than 15 years of experience in the online deals space to source the latest eBay discount codes and deals. Our strategy includes regularly checking eBay’s home categories, as well as emails and other sources. We also personally test each discount code or deal to make sure it works, review the terms and conditions and remove deals when they expire.

How often does eBay have sales?

As an online marketplace, eBay has both independent sellers and big brands that offer different sales or promotions throughout the year. But you can also find a wider range of savings during major sales events such as Black Friday and Boxing Day.

Beyond that, it’s also possible to get bargains by upcycling pre-loved items from eBay sellers. For example, a $60 bedframe from eBay was painted white to suit the effortless, sun-bleached style of this newlywed couple’s $60,000 renovation.

Other ways to save

As well as deals, sales and bargain-hunting, here are a few other ways to make your money go further on eBay.

  1. eBay Plus: This paid membership program costs $4.99 a month and offers benefits including $5 off each month, member-only discounts and free express metro delivery. It also offers free change-of-mind returns on eligible items. So if you frequently source items from the marketplace, the membership fee may be worth it. Otherwise, there’s also a free 30-day trial that could help you decide.
  2. Daily deals: These limited-time deals cover a huge range of categories, including DIY and tools, home and appliances. When we checked, some of the discounts were up to 84% off.
  3. Exclusive account coupons: Sometimes, eBay offers logged-in customers exclusive discounts and coupon codes for a specific category or product. These are usually only available for a limited time, either with or without a code to enter at the checkout.

Delivery, returns and payment

Does eBay offer free shipping?

There are some free delivery options, but it depends on the eBay seller. So check the shipping details on individual item pages to get clear details of different options.

eBay Plus members also get free express delivery on eligible items in metro areas, with free standard delivery for other areas. This option is available for items marked “eBay Plus”.

You may also be able to pick up items if a seller is nearby. Or save on costs with Click and Collect via Parcelpoint, HUBBED or a retail store. These options aren’t always available, but you’ll find details for them on eligible item listings and at the checkout.

How long does delivery take?

Delivery times vary between items, sellers and locations. You can check the item listing for postage details and delivery time estimates (when available). Or, ask a seller in a message.

You will also get more accurate details at the checkout and after placing an order.

How do I find the return policy?

Return policies vary based on the seller. But eBay states that “most sellers accept returns if you’ve changed your mind.” You can check the listing for details of the return policy, or contact the seller for more information.

If your order is faulty, damaged or doesn’t arrive, in most cases you can get your money back or a replacement. You can refer to the Australian government’s guidelines on consumer rights for further details.

Ways to pay

Sellers can choose which payment methods they allow, and you can view them at the checkout. But as a basic guide, you’ll often be able to pay with your Australian credit card or debit card, with PayPal and Afterpay also available through some sellers (among other payment options).

Three tips for shopping with eBay

  1. Have a list or specific item in mind. As an online marketplace with both individual sellers and major retailers, eBay can be overwhelming to browse. So it helps to know what you want first, and focus on that particular category or brand to save time. You could even use our selection of deals as a way to focus on the category you want, because we’ve only selected home-related offers.
  2. Log in before you buy anything. It’s worth checking if you have an exclusive discount code or offer available through your eBay account before adding items to your cart.
  3. Check the delivery details and the return policy. As these vary by seller, make sure you check the details before making your purchase.
